When you’re a kid, it’s so easy to make friends. You see another kid or a group of kids at the playground, you go up and say, “Hi, do you wanna play?” Or “Can I play too?” and BAM you’ve instantly made new friends. It’s a little different as you get older.
I read this quote and it made me think about how friendships get started.
It seems like most of my friends now are “mom friends.” We have kids that are the same age, in the same class, or involved with the same sports. The kids definitely help with the introductions, but the friendship usually happens when we find other silly or random things to connect us.
Like when a mom friend and I bonded over our dislike for coffee. We met some other moms at a local coffee shop and laughed at our social awkwardness as we both quietly ordered hot chocolate. A few years later, we discovered we both liked Chia Tea Lattes, which seems to be a little more ‘socially acceptable.’ Now we don’t have to be social lepers when friends want to meet up for coffee! Yay! ☕️
Another friend and I bonded over our love of music. Our playlists were almost identical ranging from today’s Top 40 to 90’s grunge and rap, to country. We send each other YouTube videos of different songs just for fun.🎼
It’s these little things that help our friendship grow. It helps us to know how to celebrate on the good days or show up for each other on the bad ones.
I don’t know about you, but I could always use some more friends in my life.
With that in mind, let’s play! I’ll tell you a few little things about me and then you share a few little things about you.
Wade and I got married when we were still pretty young (I was 21, he was 22), but I don’t regret it for a second and I’d do it all the same again if I could.
I’m a “jaw clencher” especially when I am tense or nervous. To help this, I almost always have gum. 🍬
The longest I have lived in one place (in my entire life) has been 8 years. (Cadillac, MI)
I love all kinds of music and I almost always have a tune in my head.
I make amazing chocolate chip cookies. 🍪
Long toenails and dirty ears give me the heebie-jeebies 🤢
If you are ever in the car with me, carpool karaoke is probably going to happen. (Unless we are listening to a podcast or audiobook)
When it comes to “adult” beverages, I have the palate of a child. The only wine I like is Moscato (practically grape juice) and my favorite adult beverages are sweet drinks like daiquiris or Malibu Rum with pineapple juice. I don’t even like coffee. Like I said, I have the palate of a child. It can be embarrassing. 🍹🍼
I wish they made cute “mom” (6+seater) cars/mini-vans in fun colors with vases like my yellow VW Bug had (My car before kids)
I love my family fiercely, but sometimes they make me crazy.
I have a MAT (Masters in Teaching) in Reading
I have to wash my hair and shave my legs every. single. day
I dream of writing a NY Times bestseller one day, but I don’t think I want my nonfiction book about our family to get that big.
I love to travel and have been to Europe (London, Paris, & Rome) once.
I like pepperoni and mushrooms on my pizza, but Wade likes pepperoni, sausage, and green olives on his, so we usually have to order halfsies. (The kids all like plain cheese so they get their own) 🍕
I’m allergic to cats and bee stings. 🐱🐝
I can not be trusted around a bag of peanut M&Ms
I make awesome homemade spaghetti sauce from scratch (it’s the only recipe I know by heart) 🍝
I love weddings, showers, and parties. I once thought about being an event planner when I was in my 20s.
I love a good debate and every once in awhile I will engage in some crazy online debates.
I cry when I get really mad, which just makes me even madder
I will not read or watch anything horror (they’ll give me nightmares for a month!)
I’m very sentimental and it takes me a long time to pick out the right card or gift for someone❤️🎁
I hate doing dishes by hand and will purposely not buy anything that is not dishwasher safe.
I love to read. My favorite author is Kristin Hannah 📚
I have 4 amazing kiddos: 3 adopted and 1 biological, but all very much “our own.” 💗💗💗💗
All four kids are “firsts.” Keelie is our first, we met her just a few hours after she was born. Kacy is our second-born, but the first child I got to witness being born (I got to be in the room with her birthmom when she was born), Averi is our third born, our first biological child I gave birth to, and Caden is our fourth, our first foster child that we adopted and our one and only boy. ❤️❤️❤️💙
There you have it! Let me know if you were like, “me too!” with any of the things on my list.

My random things:
I love to cook and bake, but I hate deciding what to make or what is for dinner.
I love to read, I will read just about anything. But I never remember the name of the books I read. If I read the description, I know if I have read it, but I can never remember from the titles.
Ditto on the horror movies. I watched The Ring, and that was the end of it for me. That movie still creeps me out.
I also have always hated doing dishes by hand, but I now have some nice pots and pans that can not be dishwashed. The quality of the pan outweighs my dislike of hand washing.
I hate emptying the dishwasher. I would rather do laundry ( another secret, I actually like doing laundry) than empty the dishwasher. I have now assigned the dishwasher to my kids.
